Unit Four -
Electronic Music Creation Basics
Music
Software (Free Open Source Software):
Audacity Audio
Editing Software [All Operating Systems]
This is our standard waveform editing software. You're
welcome to use another if you have one that you prefer, but
Audacity is free, cross-platform, and not very difficult to
figure out.
-
Renoise
1.9 [Windows/Mac]
Because of its relatively advanced features (compared to
some of the other software out there) we'll be covering a
lot of the basics in terms of tracking and sequencing using
this program.
Homework:
-
Homework 2 - Using
the built in samples in Renoise 1.9, write a single pattern
of music based on any of the following folk songs:
-
Baa, Baa, Black
Sheep
-
Row, Row, Row,
Your Boat
-
Mary Had a Little
Lamb
-
Old MacDonald Had
a Farm
If you are having
difficulties with Renoise, please look at the
tutorial. There
is information on using the interface, loading/saving files,
as well as basic editing concepts.
-
Final Project
- Any samples from Renoise + royalty free outside sources
of your choice (search Google for "samples"), please create an original
composition of your choice, in any genre, minimum length 3
minutes. You may work with a partner, and submit a single
song together.
UPDATED: THIS PROJECT IS DUE ON
MONDAY, MAY 19TH!!
Please submit your project by email to
ochsa@solscope.com
if it is small enough; bring it on a CD and leave it in my
school mailbox, OR put it on a USB key and bring it to
class. Your choice!

what benefits they offer (if any) to music and musicians. They
may seem similar, but their overall goals are somewhat different
in terms of their content.
